What does it mean to be an Old Catholic?
In unity with all Catholics, we believe · In the imparted grace of the Seven Sacraments of the Church · In the Holy Scriptures as the inspired Word of God. · In the celebration of the Holy Mass · In our profession of faith as stated in the Liturgy of the Mass · In the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist · In the Apostolic succession of ordained ministry
In difference with the Church in Rome, we believe · That all baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion, including those who have been divorced and remarried
· That family planning through the practice of birth control is a personal and private decision
· That the doctrines that are not supported by Scripture and/or Early Church teachings, including Papal infallibility, purgatory, indulgences, and some of the Marian doctrines, are a matter of personal choice or conviction
· That both women and men are called to ordained ministry That we are all made in the image of God, and loved by God equally without regard to gender or sexual orientation.
The Old Catholic Church is not a religion where everyone gets to pick and choose what they like, no! The Old Catholic Church embraces the doctrines of the Early Church with two constant questions before us when we practice our faith:
"Are we loving God and our neighbors as Christ has taught us?" "Will they know we are Christians by our love?" |
